By using Filters you can set rules to be applied to incoming messages. Filters can automatically move messages to other folders, redirect or forward them to another address (may not be available to all users), or delete them. When an incoming message arrives it is compared to any filters that you have created, stepping through the filters in order, beginning at the top. If a message meets a filter's criteria, the action specified in the filter is taken. After that, the message will not be compared to any subsequent filters.
The Filters settings are available only if your account is permitted to use them. In both themes, you can also start a new filter from a message you are viewing: click the More actions button (the vertical dots icon) on the message toolbar, and then click Add Filter. The new filter has the message's sender already filled in.
Text in filters cannot contain double quotation marks ("). Further, if you choose "is greater than" or "is less than" as your comparison type then the text specified must be a number.
To create a filter to apply to your incoming messages:
1.Click Settings and then Filters.
2.Click New Filter.
3.Under Conditions, choose the header or other message attribute that you wish to be checked by this filter (e.g. To, Subject, Message Size, or Other Header... to enter any header name). Then choose the method of comparison (e.g. contains, does not contain, is greater than, and so on), and type the text that you want this filter to search for.
4.To add another condition, click Add Condition. To delete a condition, click Remove next to it.
5.Use Match to choose whether a message must meet all of these conditions or any of these conditions.
6.Under Action, choose what to do with matching messages: move to, delete, forward to, or redirect to (forward to and redirect to may not be available to all users).
7.If you chose move to, choose a Folder. If you chose forward to or redirect to, type the Email Address to which you wish to send the message.
8.Click Save Filter.
To edit an existing filter:
1.Click Settings and then Filters.
2.Click the Edit icon next to the filter that you wish to edit.
3.Make any desired changes to the filter.
